Jim has served as Governor of the Law Foundation of British Columbia, Member of the Victoria Bar Association Executive, and President of the Victoria Bar Association. He was appointed by the Attorney General’s office to the B.C. Court of Appeal Rules Committee, and has served at various times as a sessional lecturer at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law in Trial Practice, Advocacy, and Insurance Law.
Areas of Practice
Jim has a number of institutional clients, including schools and hospitals, as well as numerous private and public insurers covering all aspects of insurance law. Principally, he has acted throughout his career as a barrister in all types of civil litigation, but particularly in the areas of personal injury, insurance law, estate litigation, health law and municipal legal liability matters.
Jim has appeared as counsel before administrative tribunals and on numerous mediations, and has frequently acted as a single arbitrator on both insurance and commercial disputes. He has appeared as counsel at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
