James S. Carfra, Q.C. and Dean P.J. Lawton established Carfra & Lawton in 1985 in Victoria. From the beginning, we have focused on civil litigation and related counsel work, initially centred in Victoria and expanding across Vancouver Island and British Columbia as our firm grew. Currently we have 8 partners, 2 associate counsel, 5 associates, 1 student and 2 paralegals, and a solid province-wide record of success in civil actions and proceedings at all levels of court from the Provincial Court to the Supreme Court of Canada.

We offer a broad range of experience in personal injury, insurance, municipal liability and general liability defence work, administrative and employment law, and related counsel work, including mediation and other forms of alternate dispute resolution. We are also experienced in providing counsel to domestic tribunals in institutional settings.
