At Carfra & Lawton, we assess each case individually, assigning counsel with the appropriate level of knowledge and experience. Our goal is to give each client expert representation in the most cost effective way, using junior counsel, articling students or legal assistants wherever appropriate.
At trial, junior counsel attend only if needed and only with prior consent from clients. We report regularly about progress on clients’ files, meeting specific reporting requirements if needed. We do not reassign files without prior consultation and agreement.
We handle investigation and case management as appropriate for each case, either conducting investigations ourselves or assigning them to reputable adjusting firms with whom we have longstanding relationships. We regularly rely on knowledgeable and trusted consulting experts in a wide range of fields including medicine, engineering, forensic accounting, economics, and fire causation and suppression.
Because our firm is small and its work is specialized, most communication between or among lawyers occurs during informal meetings, generally at no extra cost to clients. Our clients benefit from our firm’s collegial open door policy, and from the informal exchanges of information and ideas that it fosters. We extend this collaborative approach when we work with clients who have their own teams of adjusters and claims examiners whenever appropriate.
